A new publication by Oceanic Society researchers and partners documents the presence of Antillean manatees at Turneffe Atoll and lays a foundation for improved conservation efforts. The study was led by long-time Oceanic Society partner Dr. Holly Edwards of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission, and used boat- and plane-based surveys to locate manatees around Turneffe Atoll. The study helps define areas used by the manatees, which may be used to guide future research and conservation efforts.
