Matthew Turner is a tall ship that was built and is operated by our partners Call of the Sea. It measures 132 feet long (with over 100 feet of deck), and was constructed over a seven year period with Douglas Fir, Oregon White Oak and Bronze Fastenings, completed in 2013.
The Matthew Turner is the newest ship in Call of the Sea’s fleet, and was designed after the ship Galilee, which was built in the late 1800s by the ship designer and builder Matthew Turner. The Galilee held the San Francisco to Tahiti passage record of 19 days for many years. Matthew Turner is docked at the Bay Model Visitor Center’s Pier in Sausalito, CA.
Call of the Sea is an educational non-profit organization that connects people to the sea and maritime traditions. They aim to increase coastal access and empower people of all backgrounds through experiential and environmental education on the water, and we are delighted to partner with them on select nature cruises in the San Francisco Bay Area.
