The Salty Lady is a 60-foot U.S. Coast Guard certified vessel with a maximum capacity of 48 passengers. She is a remarkably stable vessel, well-suited to the demands of open ocean operation with ample observation deck space as well. Comfortable diner-style booths make up the indoor seating and there is a sink and 2 bathrooms for convenience.
The Salty Lady’s immaculately maintained white, orange and black exterior pays homage to San Francisco and the charter fleet she has reliably operated within for decades. Her reputation within marine conservation extends beyond Oceanic Society and her extended service in our Farallon Islands program.
Iconic Bay Area fisherman and conservationist Captain Roger Thomas operated the Salty Lady throughout his time successfully advocating for responsible resource utilization in San Francisco Bay. Now, the operation of the vessel is overseen by Thomas’ protege, Captain Jared Davis, who has decade’s experience in boat-based observation of marine mammals making our trips as safe and respectful of the animals as possible.
The Salty Lady is used for our Farallon Islands whale watching cruises that depart from San Francisco.
