The Bucket Family Chore Chart

How to make an easy family chore chart that works.

Any other parents out there struggle to get your kids to do chores??  I know I do!!!  The kids argue about who has to do which chore, they complain about being tired and bored.  However….I think it’s important for the kids to help out around the house, so I continue to assign chores and come up with ways to make it a little more interesting.  I’ve tried just about every family chore chart out there and finally found the one I like best!

A few weeks ago my sister sent me a couple pictures of her brand new family chore chart; and I LOVED it!  I begged for her permission to let me share it with all of you!

My kids have been doing chores for years, but I think this Bucket Chore Bucket will be the perfect way to keep them motivated every day.  I can’t wait to make my own!

It’s simple, it’s effective, it’s cheap, and it’s so cute!  A few of my fave things combined together in one!  I love when that happens!

What You Need:

It only takes a few supplies to put together this bucket chore chart.  You can find them all on Amazon, or even the dollar store ( I love the dollar store!).

• Tin Bucket
• Wood Clothespins
• Acrylic Paint (one color for each child)

What To do:

With only a few quick steps you will have your bucket chore chart put together.  

First, use your acrylic paint to paint the tips of each clothespin.  Make sure to paint a different color for each child.  If you let your child choose their own specific color, they will be a little more excited to complete the chores.  (trust me on this!)

For example, if you have three kids you will paint ten clothespins blue, ten clothespins green and ten clothespins red.  My sister is using this bucket for three of her kids, so she has three different colors.

Next, use a pen or marker to write the chores you want your kids to complete each day on the clothespins.  Here are a few examples of chores my kids have in our home:

• Vacuum upstairs
• Dust upstairs
• Make bed
• Clean room
• Practice instrument
• Clean bathroom
• Wash windows
• Clean out fridge
• Sweep/mop kitchen
• Vacuum basement
• Dust basement
• Wash car

Lastly, simply clip those clothespins onto the bucket and you’re ready to go!

How It Works:

The beauty in this chore chart system is the simplicity!  Kids (and let’s be honest, moms too) thrive on simplicity.

Each day you will clip the clothespins onto the bucket, choose the chores you want completed that day.  Somedays you might want different chores done.  As your child completes each of their assigned chores they will simply grab their clothespin and drop it into the bucket!

As the parent you will be able to take a quick glance at the bucket to see if chores are done or not.  Once all the clips are in the bucket you will know the chores are done and the kids are ready for play!  It’s a great system!

I truly believe that families who work together, inside and around the home, creates bonds and builds character.  As a mom I know how difficult it can be to get your kids to do chores, but I promise it is worth it!
