My daughter, who uses this method has been showing me how to control my reduced income and sent me your article. So I’ve started. Wish me luck

You for sure can keep it in your house. If you like to use cash, just save some cash into an envelope and that can be your sinking fund. Remember to keep it in a safe place.

What happens if the banks close or crashes? I am a senior on SS.

It is empowering to know that I can be successful at this. I keep all of the money in one savings account and use a separate check register book to record the amounts and when I deposit and withdraw from them, this keeps the money separate in my head although it is altogether in one savings account. Thank you for all of your insight and wisdom, I feel so much better off just knowing I can do this and not feel deprived.
