Items Worth Purchasing To Save More Money In The Long Run
If you are a long time reader, you know I am ALL about looking for ways to cut expenses, spend less and save a few bucks. However, there are times when SPENDING money is actually the best way to be frugal. Today I am going to share some of my favorite products worth buying to save money.
How Can Spending Money On A Product Save Money?
I know it doesn’t really make sense! Spend money to save money! But with some products it actually really really works! I like investing in quality products that will:
- Reduce the cost of a bill or budget category I already spend money on.
- Last a long time without needing to be replaced.
- Reduce the amount of reusable products I already regularly buy.
If the one time expense will continually reduce my regular expenses for years to come, it is worth the money for me. Below are some of the products I recommend buying to help save money in the long run.
Products Worth Buying To Save More Money
1. Tempered Glass Screen Protector
One of my very favorite purchases ever has been my tempered glass screen protector for my cell phone. It is worth every penny and then some!
Our cell phones go almost everywhere with us! Which is great, but also a little risky that they will break.! Cell phones are expensive and cost a lot of money to be fixed.
If you cover your screen with a tempered glass screen protector all you will have to place is the protector instead of the entire phone, saving you huge bucks if your screen ever cracks (which let’s be honest…..happens).
2. Rechargeable Battery Charger
Investing in a rechargeable battery charger is a great way to save money on batteries.
When we bought a Wii years and years ago for our kids, we bought a rechargeable battery charger and batteries to go with it. We have used those batteries so many times for Wii remotes, the cost was well worth it!
3. Makeup Eraser
My friend gifted me a makeup eraser a couple of years ago, and I have never looked back since! These microfiber cloths easily clean off your daily makeup with only the help of some warm water. I no longer have to buy disposable makeup remover cloths or products. Yay!
The best part? It’s reusable! So, wash your cloth and reuse again and again. Great for the environment, and your pocket book!
4. Drying Rack
A drying rack is another smart purchase to save money in the long run. Air drying clothes will extend the life of your clothing and it saves you money on electricity bills by not having to run your dryer as often.
Consider purchase an indoor drying rack that can be easily tucked away, or an outdoor retractable clothesline (I’ve had my eye on this one for a while now!).
5. Reusable Sandwich Bags
Rather than buying disposable ziplock bags over and over again, consider buying resusable sandwich bags instead! You can use them to pack lunch boxes, or to freeze leftovers for another meal. That’s right, they are even freezer safe! These are a great product to help you save more and spend less!
6. Produce Storage Containers
One of the most important ways to save money on groceries is to prevent food waste. Spending a little bit of money on high quality produce storage containers will help produce to last longer so that you won’t be throwing away food that you spent your hard earned dollars on.
7. Dryer Balls
I recently switched from dryer sheets to dryer balls and I keep wondering why I didn’t make the switch sooner! They have been so efficient in keeping my clothing soft and static free.
Dryer balls can be used over and over again, cutting out the need to buy dryer sheets! Plus, dryer balls helps dry your clothes faster and more efficiently which will save you in high energy costs. Try them and let me know what you think!
8. Hair Clippers
When my husband and I first got married many many many years ago I bought a $15 set of hair clippers. Over the next ten years those $15 hair clippers have saved us roughly $750 on hair cuts!
I am NOT a professional hair cutter. As a matter of fact, I’m really not that good at cutting hair. But, I kept practicing, trying and watching YouTube videos until I became more confident in my abilities.
This small investment has been a huge money saver to our family. Here is a similar pair of clippers with great reviews.
9. LED Light Bulbs
As your old incandescent light bulbs burn out, replace them with LED light bulbs. The cost upfront is more expensive, but so worth it in the long run. LED light bulbs last longer and uses less electricity than a traditional light bulb. Check out this Light Bulb Showdown article to see the huge life time savings in this one simple change.
10. Reusable Water Bottle
We all know that drinking water is great for our health. But, buying disposable water bottles again and again costs a lot of money. Fortunately, we can drink water without having to buy disposable water bottles!
Instead of wasting plastic and money, invest in a reusable water bottle and fill it up with water from home! I love buying items that I know I can use over and over again, for, well, forever! Here is a great priced insulated water bottle with fabulous reviews!
11. Menstrual Cup
Alright ladies, this ones for you! Quit wasting your money on disposable feminine care and invest in a menstrual cup!
This DivaCup is reusable and has FANTASTIC reviews. I know it might feel a little different at first, but I recommend you try it! You might like it more than you think! And it will save you money in the long run!
12. Digital Antennae
One of the best things we did for our budget was to cancel our cable TV and buy a digital antennae. A digital antennae is a one time cost for free monthly TV.
True, it doesn’t have as many channels as cable TV does, but it gives you access to your local television channels for free! Which means you won’t miss the news, big sporting events or the popular current TV shows.
Spending Money To Save Money
Sometimes you have to spend a little bit of money to save money! These are all products worth buying to save money, but I might have missed a few! What else would you add to this list?

Digital tv antenna gets us 26 channels, crisp and clear, no monthly subscription costs, I use the wool dryer balls, we use rechargeable batteries, and I pack my lunch with extra food cooked the night before in pyrex dishes to reheat in the break room. Everyone always comments how good my lunch smells. I bought a good set of Wahl Designer clippers over ten years ago to give my boys their haircuts. I read the cheaper ones heat up, vibrate more and don’t cut as well. So I spent about $50. My now teen boys get their haircuts every three weeks from my husband, as I am not good at cutting hair, and he does a great job every time. I get asked where I take them for such nice haircuts. A decent haircut would be $25 each for my boys, so that is over $850 that I am not spending. I take a seat every couple months and have my husband trim my elbow length hair, in my area, they would charge me well over $100, because of the long hair extra charge. No hassle of making a salon appointment and waste half the day, or the expense. My best friends has been having him trim her long hair for a number of years now. She likes the way that he cut mine, and asked him to cut hers too. So she is saving hundreds of dollars a year, as I am by getting home haircuts. We also have a garden with fresh fruits and vegetables, plus I can and freeze them as well. I get over a hundred quarts each of blueberries and raspberries each year. That is thousands in savings.
I love hearing all of your great ways to save money!!
