I came across this recipe years ago and have been using it regularly ever since. It tastes so much better than the cans, and is a lot less processed. To turn your mix into a soup just whisk together 1/2 cup soup mix with 1 1/4 cups water.

When you mix the 1/2 cup mix with the water, is that equal to Cream of Chicken right out of the can or when the can is mixed with water?
It is equal to a can of cream of chicken soup BEFORE it’s mixed with water. I hope that helps!
Is there any sodium in this recipe? Thanks!
The amount of sodium in soup mix will depend on the kind of chicken bouillon you use.
Look on Amazon and in the stores they have low sodium and some have no sodium chicken bullion, it costs a bit more but well worth the health benefits. Good luck
Would u also share cream of mushroom soup!
Flour is all purpose Flour or cornflour flour
Thank you.
I use all purpose flour.
Can I use powdered onion instead of dried chopped onion? Other than that this is an amazing recipe that I will definitely try ?
Yes! I have used powdered onion before and it works great! Enjoy!
Can you use powdered cream instead of powdered milk? And instead of flour can you use cornstarch?
I’ve never tried it before! But it might work!
Cornstarch will cause it too be thick and not the correct consistency.
How long will this store for? Thanks!!
It should stay fresh for 6-12 months on the shelf.
Do you need to cook the mixture before using, or just mix together and add directly to recipe?
Just mix it together and add to any recipe. No need to cook beforehand!
Can you use regular milk?
Since this recipe is by a dry cream of chicken soup mix you will need to use dry milk powder.
Could you add it to a cream to make a thick soup and add tortellini?
Can you make this soup with water then add cream to thicken add tortellini?
Yes you can do that. Sounds yummy and a great idea!
Is using non fat dry milk ok?
Yes, that should work great!
My husband is lactose intolerant. Is there anything else we could substitute instead of the dry milk powder?
You could substitute the dry milk powder for coconut milk powder to make a dairy free version.
My son and I are lactose intolerant and I actually found on Amazon… Lactose Free Powered Milk.
Oh I’m so glad you were able to find that!!
Great soup recipe! Can’t wait to try it.
Let me know if you like it!
Do you have a gluten free recipe for cream of chicken soup?

Add some ground dehydrated celery to it.

Maybe sub vegetable bullion for the chicken bullion
Maybe celery powder
Would it be ok to use dry goats milk instead of regular dry milk?
I have never tried it with dry goats milk, but I think it should work the same! Let me know if you try it!
DO YOU HAVE A CREAM OF MUSHROOM DRY RECIPE?
I don’t have one right now, but I’ll try to create one. Thanks for the suggestion!
I am confused. In the text of the recipe it says 1 1/2 tablespoons of powdered milk. On the recipe card it says 1 1/2 cups of powdered milk. Which is it.?
I am so sorry about the typo! It is 1 1/2 cups of powdered milk.
Great. And so good to have in these times to keep on the shelf. Hope there is some way you can red flag me when you get the celery recipe figured out. I have set aside some of my dehydrated celery powder just waiting to find out what the perfection portions are. You got my emails address
So is 1/2 cup of soup powder to 1 1/2 water is like having a cut of soup mix to drink ??
It makes the equivalent of 1 can of Cream of Chicken Soup.
This is great, but I do have a question. Where do you get buillion powder? I have granules and cubes and even Better Than Buillion, but I’ve never heard of powder.
Granules and powder are the same thing. Just different wording!
Can you substitute dry powdered buttermilk for powdered milk?
I’ve never tried it, but I don’t see why not!
If you use buttermilk powder, it has to be refrigerated.
I don’t ever use buttermilk powder. Thanks for the tip though!
What are your thoughts about making this recipe Keto? Could you replace the flour with almond flour?
I have never tried this recipe with almond flour, but my guess is it would work just fine!
My daughter can’t have soy (which is in every “cream of” soup), so I’ve been looking for a good substitute. This was so easy to make and tasted great. I used onion powder instead and had to add water and corn starch to thicken it. Luckily, I was using the soup as a sauce (Hawaiian haystacks). If this recipe made a thicker soup, I would have given it 5 stars. Unfortunately, it was super thin.
What if your recipe calls for a can of cream of chicken soup? I’ve tried this mix with a cheesy potato recipe and it worked well but my tater tot casserole was too dry?
When a recipe calls for one can of cream of chicken soup I whisk together 1/2 cup soup mix with 1 1/4 cups water and use it in replace of the can of soup.
This is a great mix to have on hand. I used gluten free flour and it was great! Thank you for sharing!
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this homemade cream of chicken soup mix recipe! I’m also glad to hear it worked with gluten free flour!
Do you use whole powdered milk or nonfat for this recipe? Can’t wait to try it!!
I usually use whole, but I think either one would work just fine.
Just made this and ready to try! How many servings does this make?
I must say…I am totally sprung!!!! This stuff is amazing!!!! EXACTLY like cream of chicken soup. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!!
If i can this using a Food Saver how long should it last. Very excited to try this.
I’m not sure of the exact dates it will stay fresh, but I think that’s an excellent idea!
How long is it good for on the shelf? Or does it need to be refrigerated?
It should be good on the shelf for 6-12 months. I don’t refrigerate mine.
I just wanted to to be correct Melanie..
For 1 can of soup=1/2C. Of mix and 1 1/4 C. of water right?
That’s correct!
Great to have on hand this day and age, not knowing what the future holds! Thank you Love it.
Yes! Cream of chicken soup mix makes a great pantry staple.
Are you using ap flour or self rising flour?
I use all purpose flour.
If I wanted to make this for a dish same day could I use milk instead of powdered milk? Or would that make it too runny? TIA
I’ve never tried that before. If you do try it, I would probably skip adding the water at the end and it should be fine.
Does this thicken after you put in oven? When I mixed my soup mix and water it’s very runny.
Yes, it will thicken when heated.
Thank you
My pleasure!
